About Cortex

Main Cortex Screen
From the main Cortex screen you will see the tree view where the list will be displayed, and various menu options.

File Menu

The file menu give access to file functions for loading, creating and saving brain files.

New Brain...

Select this item to create a new brain file.  Enter a name for the new brain.  This name will be used as the filename (*.cor), and will appear as text in the root neuron of the brain.

Save Brain

Select this item to save the brain contents to file.  It is the user's responsibility to periodically save as changes are made.  Note the default save path is to the "My Documents" folder.

Save Brain As...

Select this item if you want to save the current brain with a different filename.  Note you are limited to saving to the "My Documents" folder, or sub folders within that folder.

Load Brain...

Select this item to load a brain file.  The state of the brain will be the same as at the time it was saved.  Neurons should appear checked and expanded just as they were when the file was saved.

Edit Menu

The edit menu provides neuron editing and sorting functions.

Sort Selected Neuron

Select this item to sort a selected neuron.  The neurons contained under the selected neuron will be sorted.  Sorts can be ascending or descending, alphabetic or by checked neurons.

Sort Brain

Select this item to sort the entire brain.  All neurons will be sorted according to the sort type selected. Sorts can be ascending or descending, alphabetic or by checked neurons.

Add Neuron

Select this item to add a new neuron at the same level as the selected neuron.  This action is also available from the toolbar menu. When a new node is added, edit mode will automatically be invoked for that node so text can be entered.

Add Neuron Below

Select this item to add a new neuron at the level below the selected neuron.  This action is also available from the toolbar menu. When a new node is added, edit mode will automatically be invoked for that node so text can be entered.

Edit Neuron...

Select this item to edit the text of a neuron.  This action is also available from the toolbar menu.  As the text is changed in the text edit box, the neuron text is simultaneously updated.

Delete Neuron

Select this item to delete the selected neuron and all neurons contained below.  You may be prompted to confirm the delete if you have that option enabled.  This action is also available from the toolbar menu.

Option Menu

The options menu provides many configuration settings to customize the way Cortex behaves.

Font Size

Select this item to set the active font size.  The font size may be 7,8,9,10,11 or 12 pt.

Show Completion

Select this item to set the completion feedback. This may be set to %, fraction, or none.  The completion feedback is displayed at the end of the text for any neuron that has neurons below it.  Completions feedback for all nodes is updated as new nodes are added, deleted or checked as completed.

Show Neuron Icons

Toggle this item to set whether the neuron icons are displayed.

AutoCheck if Complete

Toggle this item to set autocheck if complete.  If selected, for any neuron that has all the child neurons checked, it will be considered 100% complete and will be automatically checked as complete.  If this option is turned off, the neuron feedback will show complete, but it will be up to the user to check the neuron complete.

Prompt Before Delete

Toggle this item to set whether a conformation prompt is displayed when a neuron is deleted.

Autoload Last Brain

Toggle this item to set whether the last brain file used is automatically loaded when the program starts.
